Bounce is a cutting edge authentic New Orleans music and dance movement.
HNO29′s “Monster Brawl” organizer Arthur Roger and choreographer Diogo De Lima set out to harness this force for this year’s “halftime” show. Featuring Nicky Da B, whom Details Magazine coined one of “Hip Hop’s Queer Pioneers” and 15 student dancers from different parts of the city, they created the first choreographed BOUNCE SHOW. Staged in an actual boxing ring with a specially designed rotating mirror, the crowd was surprised with a birds-eye view ala Busby Berkeley production – on Red Bull! They ramped up the camp with a false-start drag performance by Blance Debris, Dusty Debris and Persona Shoulders as MADD-onna, Lady Rah Rah and Referee Emcee respectively.
Thanks to his appearance in Diplo’s “Express Yourself,” Nicky, a protégé of bounce sensation Big Freedia, has become the genre’s breakout star, bringing his all-booties-on-deck act to packed houses nationally and internationally including a recent performance at the Sydney Opera House.
The show was assisted by Scott Beard and special help from Martin Holly, Adam Shepard, Thiago Sales and Dillon Powell.
